FACE CLAIM: GURREN LAGGAN, SIMON - ODD NAGEL
PERSONALITY:
Given that Odd never talks, whether or not he actually has a personality is debatable.
All right, to rephrase that; Odd is quiet. Dead-silent quiet, usually keeping to himself in the corner where things are normal and boring. (Simplicity is a thing with him, as is predictability.) He is very much comfortable in the background, and delights in going unnoticed when he isn't taking a job that most likely does not exist in the first place or being forced to speak. Communication is unnatural to him, due in part 'something strange about him.'
Namely, that his lantern is possessed by a phantom—posing as a narrator of sorts, the leftovers of a demon's soul that shares a pact with him—who has a penchant for saying the wrong thing and being a massive ass. All the time, with very little consideration of how it might end up with Odd, say, living on the streets because his behavior is simply too intolerable for most people. (As a matter of fact, were Seppel ever to care about how any of his actions affected Odd at all, it would be faint-worthy. Thank god the boy is a wall; completely blank-faced and immovable.) Blunt, perverse, arrogant, self-serving, and nearly all other negative adjectives apply to Seppel—as a demon, he has no concept of nor interest in human affairs, and only demonstrates a vague attachment to Odd. It would be impossible for him to not love himself, and, at the moment, Odd is why he continues to live even after death. This creates its fair share of misunderstandings, but, partially because he's resigned to the fact, only bothers Odd distantly. Bygones be bygones, and there are aspects of Seppel he appreciates.
As for Odd himself, he's difficult to place into a mold—surface apathy, sparse words, spartan lifestyle, a touch of naivety, and efficiency are the building blocks of his personality. Independence, however, is his core trait and he sees very little use for company; Seppel is with him all the time, so what more could he ask for? Perhaps friends might be a start, but Odd is go-with-the-flow and takes things as they are. The path of least resistance is appealing to him, although he has his stubborn, inflexible moments. Finally, due in part to his left-handed optimism his morals are strong and he has a surprising amount of courage for all his dull, lazy behaviors—he feels obligated to help others if he can, although his intentions fall somewhat short of the mark where Seppel is involved.
LIKES:
Odd is a man of very modest tastes—he appreciates being alive in general, and, if that seems like it doesn't count, go back and consider whether you would like to be dead or not. (It may change your tune.) He also enjoys the comfort of a roof over his head and food in the larder, but is usually too poor to keep the former, and too nomadic for the latter. Even so, sharing bread and board doesn't interest him and he very rarely stays in one place for the sake of his own sanity. Solitude is a necessity more than a passing fondness, and being left alone is good for him. This is not to say that he won't ever enjoy pleasant conversation—not so, it just tends to end quickly wherever he is involved. He finds loud, cheerful individuals entertaining, but prefers those more similar to himself or Seppel. Finally, he can be somewhat sporty, likes nature, and reads avidly provided he can, for example, find the book lying in the street or some such thing.
DISLIKES:
As easy-going as he is, it is difficult to find something he truly loathes. Money and handling finance irritates him, and he has a bad tendency to—while never spending—hand it off to anyone who asks. Odd disapproves of others materialism as a side-aspect of this, and tries to stay out of the affairs of the greedy. He also dislikes being challenged to duels when he is busy with other things, as well as knights who don't respect their own codes. (Whatever those codes are, acknowledge them, at least.) Storms frustrate him, since they force him to spend time struggling to find an inn when he could simply sleep outside. Finally, abuse, cruelty to animals, waiting, and willing stupid behavior all press his buttons quite nicely.
HOBBIES: Does his job count? Odd collects and moves the spirits of the dead from both sides of the conflict, guided by Seppel. Since this and magical study take up a large portion of his life when he is not ignoring it, he would suppose that he never had the time to develop any real hobbies. Reading, as stated, is one of his favorite pastimes, as is swordplay.
AMBITIONS: If Odd claims that he has any worldly ambition beyond 'living life as it comes, accepting things generously if he can', then he is probably lying. Perhaps someday he would like to own a cottage on a hill or something equally as quaint, but that day is not in the near-future.
FEARS: Although not easily frightened by any means, he does have his share of concerns. Hurricanes, mudslides, and all manner of natural disaster disturb him, as does the idea of large-scale death. On a more amusing note, he is afraid of doctors—not because he has a reason, but because they charge more money than he can afford and he has trouble taking good advice from others. Finally, he is unnerved by snakes and bats.
OTHER INFORMATION: Nope.
