Ah, to walk in upon the smell of alcohol every day. Was there a better life?
... There had to be.
At least, that's what crossed his mind every day when it was his turn to go into work, serving customers who usually came in to be far more tipsy than what was healthy. He hated dealing with ignorance, but drunkards were that along with annoying, stupid, and sometimes even violent. Great people to work with, suure. But Emil put up with it -- a bizarre combination, such an easily annoyed guy like him serving drinks all night long. Work was work, but it was a mystery to even him why had hadn't yet quit and tried to find some more tolerable career path.
That was where he found himself -- punching in for another long night behind the counter. Especially with the Harvest Ball coming up, people were even more eager to drown themselves in liquor. Already, he found himself eager for whenever his shift ended. He could tell that the wait would be far too long. Emil hardly even nodded at those already at work as he grabbed a man apron and tied it around his waist, stuffing a notepad and pencil into one of the pockets. The bar wasn't too full yet, he noted rather contentedly, so at least it'd start out slow. It would change all too soon, so he would enjoy it while he could. The longer he could go without snapping at some drunk prude, the better.
And then the teen was ready for the job, lounging behind the counter, those dark blue eyes of his just daring someone to come up and ask for a drink. Just because he was supposed to be serving people didn't mean he had to look friendly. Any regular guests to the place usually knew him well enough to stay away when he had the right look on his face. Not that most people looked at him long enough, anyway -- they were far too distracted or self-absorbed to sense the danger. Well, that was their problem when they got snapped at. It wasn't his fault he didn't like the job.
Although... If he really was honest with himself [which he often wasn't], he enjoyed it a little. If only because that was the only way he ever really got out of his house and socialized, because beside from his job he was a habitual recluse. It was good to get out and hear other people milling about, talking and sharing the news of the day. If only the alcoholics could get the hell out, that'd make the setup so much more tolerable.
[ sorry if it's a fail, my muse ain't all that cooperative. orz" ]

This was no place for a kid.
Danika knew that very well, but she also knew that it was perfect to get some business done. She was a young thief who was in dying need for money and what better place to go on her little hunt than the redlight district where there were tons of men and women pockets filled with cash? She couldn't thinking of anywhere else, but this place. On her shoulder was a little white dragon that she named Jazz; most had mistaken the creature for an albino snake, but once they saw the power of the fire breathing then they mostly backed off.
"Ahh!~ I'm so hungry!" The red head pouted as she continued to along the streets slowly. "We're gonna have to find someone soon before we starve to death." She was mostly talking about herself since the dragon found survival on smalls animals, bugs, and worms. Large eyes scanned the area, there were mostly drunks and prostitutes; two types of people that Danika didn't have the guts to 'borrow' -- stealing is such a dirty word -- from. Who knows, they would probably beat the crap out of her, or worse.
Finally irises fell upon a tall flashy man who was walking in the opposite direction than herself. Smiling happily to herself, Danika let the man pass her up before she turned around and started following him. She wasn't stalker close, but she was close enough to keep in in sight. Now, how was she going to get the money? There were so many options that she could use, but she would most likely have to settle with the good ol' bumping into technique.
"Wish me luck, Jazzy." She whispered to the creature as it knowingly wrapped it's long body around her neck. Danika's walking quickly picked up speed until she found herself sprinting at the man. With a hard bump, she nearly tackled him to the ground, but successfully got the wallet out of the pocket. Slowing down the girl opened her new treasure to find few hundreds inside, jackpot.
Giggling to herself, she could hear a man yelling out loud about his wallet. "Uh-oh..." This wasn't good at all, the last thing she needed was to get caught. Well, there were tons of thieves in this area; there was no way that the old guy would have thought it was her. Of course, the teen was prone to being extremely wrong. The yelp from the dragon was cue to get the hell out of there. Running desperately for her life, eyes kept watched for where she could hide out at. Definitely not a hotel because that would always lead to bad news (she knew from experience).
Instead she ran into a bar that she knew quite well. Brutally pushing open the doors, "Emi, help!" Running toward the counter she placed her hands against the counter and gracefully leaping over the counter. Danika sat on the floor hiding. She had lost count of how many times she had come here to hide, but she did enjoy seeing Emil's face every chance she got. She was sure that the man didn't follow her inside, but one could always be wrong.
NOTE: I just assumed they already knew each other, if that's okay.

Actually, the evening was going quite well so far. It'd only been about a half-hour in by now, but maybe tonight would go smoother than he'd thou--
Nevermind.
The bar was starting to bustle just a little, but even over the low bustle he could hear something like the loud thud of desperate footsteps -- or maybe that was just intuition, because lots of guilty people ran around a place like Western Forestille. He could think of one example in particular, but he decided not to dwell on her -- until she'd burst through the doors and bolted straight for him, that is. Things like that were very hard to ignore.
In an instant she'd called for him, speicifically. A moment later she was leaping over the counter with such a momentum that he staggered back a step or two, letting loose a noise reminiscent of a disgruntled farm animal. Jeez, what was with her, always darting around like that -- no, darting for him like that? Did she really have nothing better to do than get in trouble? There wasn't much time to do anything, though, before what must've been her latest victim came charging in as well, yelling something about a lost wallet. Yep, that was Danika.
So he let himself look casual, wondering why the hell he was bothering to protect the girl as he did just that. "Excuse me? Stop screaming, this place is already loud enough without your input." There was a pause while the man -- apparently not paying much attention to what Emil had just told him -- explained his situation. "Yeah, some kid just ran in here, but hell if I know where she went. I'm not some damn babysitter. So either buy a drink or get lost." The guy didn't seem to like the answer he'd gotten, but he only muttered a few obscenities as he sauntered away. Done with that, the seventeen-year old waited until the man was out of sight before taking a small step back and kneeling down to face Danika. His face easily told that he wasn't too happy.
"I'm not your babysitter," He repeated for emphasis, just to make sure she'd gotten it -- although he wasn't in too high hopes. "Don't ask me why I protect you, either. If you're not good enough at pickpocketing to get away with it, you should find some other way of feeding yourself." He'd meant to sound pissed, but all he'd managed was obvious irritation and what was probably received as a lecture. With a small, rather harmless kick to her side beneath the counter, he stepped back farther so she would have enough room to stand back up. "You shouldn't even be around here anyway, you're way too young. Get outta here before somebody rapes you." And with that, he sighed exasperatedly. If this wasn't the first time, it most certainly wouldn't be the last.

Grinning happily, she ignored the kick to her side and just leapt back up on her feet. "Ne, Jazz that was close!" Whispering to the dragon on her shoulder with a little laugh, "At least we have a feast tonight!" She fanned the wallet in her face, that was seriously tough and she wasn't completely sure if she got away with it. Stepping outside through the front was not going to happen now since he might be waiting for her. Then again Danika could try to stay with Emil although he will refuse as he always did.
"I'm not your babysitter,"
"Of course your not, silly." Poking him in the chest with a smirk, "I wouldn't make the person I love babysit me." Such embarrassing words left her lips so carelessly. She was only speaking the truth and the girl didn't see what was so embarrassing about it. That's what probably made her not as normal as everyone else in the world, she was just simply happy and that was pretty much it as far as anyone else would know.
Climbing onto the counter now, she sat there filled with content. She was sure that he was going to yell at her to get down, but that didn't matter really. Danika just liked seeing his face because he was just so darn cute! If anyone had more of an obsession for someone then the girl had to be quite the maniac. She would usually go on and on about him to Jazz and she was more than positive that the creature was extremely tired of it.
"...If you're not good enough at pickpocketing to get away with it, you should find some other way of feeding yourself."
He had more than a point, but it wasn't like she was going to go around begging for money and it never really got her anywhere (she's tried). Besides who would want to hire a kid like her? "Then how about I work here?" The words slipped innocently from her mouth, "I could work as a waitress or whatever." Danika was sure to hear some no's being thrown her way, but she was entirely serious although she shouldn't even be remotely close to the redlight distract since it was dangerous for a cutie as herself.
No doubt she would get raped in this part of town, but it wasn't like she would easily follow just about anyone. Actually she doesn't follow anyone around except her 'benefactors' and Emi.
NOTES: This is just super random and muse being just simply weird!~

Even as he spoke, he'd already known that no, this girl was not going to take him seriously. She never really did when it came to his harpings. Had he ever been that ignorant at her age? He sure as hell hoped he hadn't been. It'd make him far too much of an obvious hypocrite for his liking. And he certainly hadn't been so daring and flamboyant as to wave money around in front of a whole freaking bar like she was. That was called plain stupidity.
He was pulled back to reality with a jab at his chest, followed by a comment that made him redden in an instant. No, he'd heard it from her before. But how the hell could she be so frank about it? When a person said that it usually actually meant something, whereas with Danika she was probably just throwing it around. And anyway, there wasn't must to look at in terms of himself. Some crabby seclusive kid with sympathy issues? Naw, she was just saying it because for some bizarre reason, he felt compelled to make sure she didn't get her ass kicked too often [although, maybe it'd help teach her a lesson or two about common sense]. She didn't really know who he was, anyway. Nobody did.
After a second of fighting with himself, Emil felt his cheeks cool a little and hoped the color had died away before anyone had noticed it was there. He'd opened his mouth to say something again, but stopped. That was when the blond really took a look at Danika, and why the hell was she now sitting on the counter? But before he could even say anything about that, she gave him even more to complain about. The words had barely left her lips before he was giving her the retort that would've been obvious to anyone else.
"Hell, no!" He snapped. "I do not need you working here where someone's bound to beat you up -- or knock you up -- sooner rather than later. Hell. No." Emil then took a deep breath, trying to regain a little of his lost posture. Why did it always feel like he was scolding a ten-year old? "Get off the counter. You're blocking customers." Well... None yet. But they'd start streaming in real soon, and he'd have to send Danika off before he got that busy. Or, move her out of the way... He signed exasperatedly. ""If you're going to insist on staying, I'm not in the mood to chase you out myself. But at least stay out of the way."
It was always a shock to find someone as stubbornly set on his ways as he actually give in to someone else, but he knew she probably wasn't going to be leaving anytime soon. Or at least, not of her own free well. But, Emil figured, at least he was behind the counter this evening. He usually bussed tables -- the management wasn't super thrilled about an underage boy serving alcohol -- but every now and then he was given the easier work. It would've been a pain to have Danika following him around from table to table like some kind of half-obedient puppy. With a small inward groan, he grabbed a washcloth from a nearby rack and started cleaning up an unoccupied section of the counter [there was a rather suspicious stain there that he didn't like the looks of].
"And don't throw words like that around. People are going to get the wrong idea." It seemed pretty obvious to him which specific three words he was referring to, and he figured that if she couldn't guess, then he was perfectly fine with leaving her in the dark. After all, it wasn't like he was about to repeat them.

She blinked for momentarily before bursting out into laughter. Sometimes she really couldn't get him because one minute he would be pissed off at her and then the next he was worried about her welfare. Stuffing the wallet back into her pocket, a single finger stroked the top of the dragon's head just feeling tears roll down her cheeks. There was no way she was going to leave this boy alone now after seeing his bright red face. Every time without fail, whenever Danika said anything about love and him in the same category, he would have this blushing frenzy. Although she really did mean the words she meant regardless of what he may have thought.
Tilting her head to the side, she couldn't understand him at all sometimes. Then again, one thing always went through one ear and out the other in her case. Emil was like a wonderball to the girl, she was never really sure what she would get, but it was always fun to find out regardless. Eyes looked over the boy in front of her a few times before showing a devilish grin. What could she possibly do next to see that look on his face one more time? Danika had thought about all possibilities, but really she wanted to kiss him the most! It would be the icing to the cake, but the girl wasn't going to be rash about her very first kiss although she was more than positive that Emil was the one.
"You're talking crazy, Emi." She responded calmly, "No one here -- besides you -- would do something like that to me." Trying very hard to making a point even thought his was better, sure she had gotten to know some of the regulars, but there were still some wandering around in the bar that she wouldn't even get remotely close to. "Anyways, I can take care of myself, Em. Kumo taught me how to fight, he's great." Although she never mentioned to him that Kumo was bear because she never found a reason to ever tell him or anyone else.
It was more of a fear of losing her grizzly bear friend than her life, but she does enjoy living as much as possible. Besides Kumo was the one who took her in when she was wandering around the mountains starving. Danika was sure she would have been dead for sure if he didn't save her. The girl had a sort of pheromone that drew in different types of animals, the wanting need to make her their baby or whatever it was. She never found a problem with it, but apparently it was dangerous.
Once again getting lost her thoughts, Danika completely ignored his plea for her to get off the counter and simply remained where she was. Well, she didn't technically ignore him, more like she didn't hear him actually. "Look Emil," trying once more this time being completely serious (she said his full name so she had to be serious, right?), "you know as well as I do that this place gets super crowded and it's not something one person can handle. At least let me help out once in awhile, ne." Ending her statement cutely as always even though with him it never really got her anywhere.
Blinking slowly she noticed him wiping down the part of the counter that she wasn't completely taking over and placed her hand onto of his. Opening her mouth to say something, his words rang through her ears clear as day. "Ne? What words shouldn't I throw around, hm?" Danika scooted along the counter to get closer to him, her face close enough that it seem she was leaning for a kiss. Her hand remained over his, "What kind of 'wrong idea' would they be getting?"

When he really got to thinking about it, Emil realized something: norbally he could pull off an average discussion with little emotion, merely simple sharp phrases giving him the upper hand. But with this girl here, he couldn't keep his voice level. What was up with that? He swore he could feel a vein pulse in his temple when she started laughing, and he swallowed a reply as he continued scrubbing. He was almost thankful that the stain, whatever it was, wouldn't seem to budge. It gave him something to keep his mind on while he dealt with her. Besides, his mind always felt a little clearer in discussions like these if he was working while he thought.
He was distracted enough not to notice that sly grin that crossed her face, or the head-tilt as she watched him -- although the latter he could feel boring into him. What she said, though, made him jump and snap his head back over at her with an indignant reply already on his tongue. "I would not! If anyone was going to do anything to her, it most certainly would not be him he had much higher standards than to do something like that. Although, she was probably just trying to get to him; a strategy that was working well, and nobody could seem to do it better than her. He thought about mentioning the whole standards thing, but his mind was cut off by.. Who the hell was Kumo, now? The blond opened his mouth to ask, but thought better of it and went back to his cleaning, scrubbing considerably more fiercely than before. It was probably better not to ask questions. He highly doubted she could defend herself that well, though, not if she was running away from her own mistakes like she always was -- and like she already had at least once so far that day.
The silence didn't last long [it never did with her, though, did it?] before she spoke again, and he resisted looking over at her in reply -- although, his hand did take to slower circles to show he was listening. After all, she never used his entire name, and it sounded like she was actually trying to be serious. Which was, quite frankly, a surprise. But Emil didn't quite like the occasion that it was for. "I'm not going to change my mind, so stop trying. You're not going t--"
He stopped then, as he saw the shadow and a second later felt a hand over his. The older teen frowned. What was she doing now? There wasn't any time to ask before she clarified it for him. Oh, so she had gotten what he had been hinting at, then. Danika just seemed to want to play clueless about it. But then things seemed to happen too quickly for him to process well: her scooting closer along the counter [why hadn't she jumped down yet?], her hand not moving, and when had her face leaned in so close? It took Emil a moment to realize that his last breath had hitched in his throat, and a moment longer to force it out slowly. Damn, she was so close to him--
And the warning lights came on.
Already a tomato red, he forced himself backwards and away from her. No, that had been far too close. What was she trying to do to him? Before now nothing near that had happened. And he... No, he was not going to let her try it again. Nobody ever got close to him, and he wasn't about to allow that to change now, whether or not it was out of fear. These feelings and him, they didn't mix. It was like oil and water.
But fuck, he needed to get out of there! He couldn't see any chance of getting off work when his shift had just started, not with a sure busy night ahead and the staff that didn't look to be plentiful to begin with. Of course, if he just left anyway, they would have to do without him, and he wouldn't have to confront anyone about it until sometime tomorrow. Still, though, his chances of escape were looking slim. But he needed to get out of there, before anything else could happen.
However, the lack of promising escape was taking it's tool, and he could feel his desperation -- and therefore annoyance -- rising. Emil forced himself to swallow hard, realizing that he also probably looked quite awkward standing there the way he was, feeling just inches away from a cold sweat. What was it about Danika that could do this to him, and without a second thought? She didn't know him, about his inner ego and his imaginary friends and the musical voice he kept to himself and the whole other half of him that he would never admit to. Before he could even think about it, he felt himself speak. "You don't even know me." It wasn't loud, it wasn't aggressive. Instead it was cool, calm, but at the same time heavy upon the air. She couldn't help it, it was his fault he acted as skilfully secretive as he did, but he couldn't help feeling suddenly threatened.
Well, he couldn't just stand there like that anymore. Emil abruptly turned on his heel, and walked away before Danika or anyone else could stop him. He wasn't leaving work, at least not yet. Actually he only made it as far as the back entrance, before sighing and leaning against the chilly brick wall of the back alley surrounding him. No doubt he'd be soon followed, but until then.. The fresh air was nice, it relieved some of the claustrophobia. His eyes closed as he let his head rest against the wall behind him. Calm down... Yeah, that's what he needed to do. Calm down and hope he'd have a little bit of peace for the moment. But it probably wouldn't be the end of his already stressful evening.
[ nehh, don't give up! he's just in denial... =3=;; ]

Naturally she followed behind him like a faithful, yet, not so obedient puppy, but she hung back which felt unusual for her part or that’s what it may have seemed to look like to many others out there. Even though the girl was known to be happy go lucky that habitually stuck her nose into everything and anything; Danika knew when not to push anything any further than she has already done, believe it or not. She had pushed, probably further than she had ever done in her entire life. She made him squirm with uncomfort and run away from her. The female knew that she shouldn’t have done that, but all she wanted to do was just to tease the boy a little, being unaware of how far she had gone though was a bit of the problem here.
He was embarrassed, but she couldn’t understand of what though – maybe her lack of sense was way off and her lack of communication with the human world, or whatever, could have been the blame for all of this. Still, what was so wrong with her expressing how she felt about him? Telling him that she loved him and all of that other stuff. Danika learned how to express herself and to never hold anything back, as far as that went. She had read in books and in movies (the main source of her knowledge of love and such), there were people who always spoke their mind about how they left and never held back.
"You don't even know me."
She couldn’t deny that, there was no denying that she knew little to nothing about him; Emil was too secretive for her, too kept to himself, and frankly probably one of the most polar opposite person to her personality that she had ever encountered. That’s what drew her toward him the most, he was different from her. There was something about this difference that made her want to be with him even more. Even though he probably only saw her as an annoyance, a burden, or something along those lines even…she still couldn’t leave him alone despite all that. Pitiful, right? Danika was a love struck fool and she couldn’t help it.
The red head quietly walked up behind him, for what seemed like hours the girl finally broke the silence. ”You’re right, I don’t know you, but I want to know everything about you.” She smiled gently, to know everything was a tad broad and the girl hardly knew anything about herself besides the memories that replay endless in her dreams like a film. ”Ne, Emi,” two small hands reached out for his, holding it and not wanting to let go, ”can’t you at least tell me? It’s only me…I won’t tell anyone.” It wasn’t like she had anyone to tell anyways, there was no one that she could really talk to…well that could talk back anyways.
NOTES: blahh, it's so short and it seems all sad and all, teehee sorry about that; had to throw in a serious danika in at least once. ;3

Deep breaths. Inhale. exhale. Inhale, exhale. Calm down before anything else happens or else the situation could only get worse.
Or at least, that was the theory -- and it was a lot easier said than done. All this, he just couldn't deal with it. He ran from relationships, and he definitely wasn't used to them following him around like this one did. Fuck... Couldn't she just leave him alone? Or for that matter, why couldn't he be as cold towards her? If it was anyone else, he was certain he'd be much more able to tell them to get the hell out of his face, throw a couple of stumble-worthy insults, and with that make the whole thing halt right there. But with Danika, he couldn't hold that same uncaring, downright icy heartless kind of tone no matter how hard he tried. It was still there, sure, but it was weaker than with any other person. And it left in its wake a confusion that made him want to get away from it all even more.
As luck would have it, of course, he wasn't able to finish relaxing himself before suddenly the voice from behind him made him jump and wheel around to face its source. Then again, he thought grudgingly, anyone else would've gotten a grip in the amount of time he'd been allowed silence. It just took him so damn long, didn't it? But her voice, it wasn't how it always was -- so assertive, definite, with a sharp i-can-do-it-my-way-just-because sort of tone. This was much softer, lacking the childish tone it usually held. Almost sympathetic, really. And for a moment, Emil was ready to fall for it.
Because, yes, maybe there was a tiny part of him that wanted to fall for that gentle smile that now graced her lips, letting go of all that paranoia of his and hoping she'd realize that he wasn't at all who he seemed to be. In the small rational part of his mind [at least, the only part rational about this "relationship" problem of his], he knew that she probably wouldn't judge him for it. But his mind was well-trained, and it blocked that small part out well. He was just fine the way he was! He could handle himself fine without the burden of someone else to hold him back. The blond had always been a loner, anyway. There was a bitter defeat in the idea of giving away secrets he'd so well managed to keep to himself, anyway. That was the way for him: a world of peace and quiet, unhindered by others, alone. He was just fine the way he was. Wasn't he?
And so he rebuilt that wall and ignored that nagging feeling in the back of his mind that urged him, this is your chance, someone's finally willing to listen, don't throw her away, recollecting himself and forcing his gaze to return Danika's as steadily as he could manage. The contact didn't last long before he couldn't hold it, and he only managed to meet her eyes half of the time. But nonetheless he could feel her hands as they grasped his gently, as if willing him not to pull away. She spoke again, and her words, just as soft as before, sank in slowly. Emil hated how easily the wanted to persuade him; he felt his defense steel even more, that instinctual fright at possibly having anyone else let into his own, personal world. By now he certainly couldn't hold those auburn eyes. A moment of silence hung heavily overhead.
Until slowly, he felt himself pull away from her touch, freeing his hands as he felt his frustration build up again. It was the fear reacting, he knew, but he couldn't ever admit that either. Damn, he had a lot of secrets, didn't he? It was hard to swallow with a dry throat, but Emil managed it anyway. "It's my life and my business, so butt out." Did his voice really just crack a little? He was almost painfully aware of how now, he was being the childish one, and Danika was showing a maturity he never would've guess she had. Emil forced his dark blue orbs to hers, and felt the frustration grow farther. "I really don't understand you," He said, almost coldly. "It's like you never know when to just give up. If I wanted to tell you, I would have by now. Why... Why the hell are you so persistent?" It had sounded good before he'd said it, but why was it that now it had come out, it sounded... Pathetic? As if he was missing a whole piece to the puzzle. But he continued to stand his ground, staring at her, daring -- practically begging -- her to answer.
Really, it was some sort of miracle that he hadn't already started running for the hills. Yet.

He pulled away from her touch and his words were cold. Danika still remained unmoved by the harshness of his tone and just continued to smile up at him as he let the words slip through his lips. She was the girl who could only express happiness and never placed not even a sign of a frown on her face. "I don't wanna butt out." The words were plain and simple, "And nope, I don't know how to give up and I don't plan to either." Danika giggled lightly. Taking a step forward, the girl rose onto her tip toes looking Emil straight in the eyes as if to challenge him back.
Danika wasn't the average girl who would be hurt by anything that this boy had said to her it would simply roll off her like water against a window. She simply wanted to know everything about Emil, maybe she did have an alternate reason, but it was something that she couldn't voice out loud, it was something that no one really needed to know. Though didn't that make her a bit of a hypocrite then? Landing her heels back to the ground, the girl took a step back with a frown pressing on her lips. Her eyes appeared slightly troubled, Danika wasn't sure what she could share in return since she held no memory about her life.
I really don't understand you
The words replayed in her thoughts as she opened her mouth to speak once more. "Then how about I tell you something about myself, ne?" Again, the same old grinning childish Danika appeared before him within seconds. "Maybe you'll understand...maybe." A small giggle followed in the end of her statement, though she had no idea what she could possibly tell him. There were so many things in the present that she could tell him like how she lives in the mountains with a family of bears or the fact that rode on the back of a lion once before. Okay, those weren't good things to tell him about herself; actually, she was sure that she was going to freak him out more.
"And then you can tell me at least one thing about you, ne." Danika spoke lightly trying not to hit a nerve, "but you don't have to, Emi. I just want you to understand at least a little, kay?"
NOTE: Ah, sorry that this is so bad. >_<

"I don't wanna butt out."
Oh, well thank you, Captain Obvious. That was a tough one to figure out.
Already the girl before him was back to smiling, the oh-so-serious look on her face gone -- even if the demeanor was still lingering. And she giggled as she said she wasn't about to give up. Did she think it was funny? Once or twice before Emil had been aware of others having a crush on him, but they were easy to shake off. The worst scenario had probably been once when he'd run all the way home from school, and even feigned sickness for a day before returning and speaking to the girl so coldly that she hadn't talked to him again for a year and a half [which is saying something, when they had the same classes]. This, though, this was beyond that because he couldn't get away. Quite literally. It wasn't work that was keeping him there, it was the reluctance of his legs to move at all towards any motion like an escape. Trapped did not work well with him though.
Two deep sapphires blinked when he realized that Danika was now on tiptoes to reach him, but he didn't have time to do much about it. Was she trying to cut a deal? And with her totally childish side out again, too. What could she have to tell him? Now that he thought about it, he really didn't know much at all about her apart from what met the eye, something that he supposed he just respected. After all, he didn't want anyone seeing past the meets-the-eye stage, so he didn't even bother caring about what might be below her bubbly exterior. Should he? No, don't be an idiot. That's a shitty deal to make with her, if she cares when you don't.
And yes, there was the end of that proposition: if she told him something, she'd expect something back. Well, screw that! It was difficult to ignore that small corner of his mind that wanted to seize the opportunity, though. But Emil did let himself think, what would he even told her if he wanted to? The whole 'You don't even know me' thing before had been too vague apparently, so maybe something like 'I'm not who you think I am' would better suffice. That would just make her question deeper though, he knew, and that's not what he wanted to happe-- Oh, hell.
It seemed the longer he was stuck in this situation, the more he was losing that prided self-control he had honed over a lifetime. Of course, he'd never been in that kind of scenario without escaping, so he'd had no idea what effect it might have on him other than frustration and the like. Well, there was his answer. Crawling out behind a dumpster to the back of Danika was a troll. What was he doi-- Damnit, was he really losing his mind enough to see his 'imaginary friends' here? Great, more things to worry about. Without looking to conspicuous, he tried to make it look like he shifting a little from foot to foot and loosening his arms while he tried to send the creature a shooing motion to get the hell out of here.
Well, of course the think obviously didn't get the message. Emil realized that it had gotten quite silent, though, as the younger teen waited for him to answer. Trying not to seem weird by looking at the troll instead of her, the taller pieced together some kind of response. "Your own life is your business, not mine. Tell me if you want to, but I'm not going to beg to hear it, and I wish you'd do the same for me," He thought he'd done a decent job at keeping that cold tone in his voice. But was it just him, or had he sounded distant? Damn Jutul, you're not supposed to show up here! Go home, or something! Too bad he couldn't send telepathic messages, or the figment of his imagination would be getting a piece of his mind for sure.
[ there's some insanity oddness for danika to sort through. not my best post, i don't think... nehh, i blame homework. >:c ]

The girl didn't even notice his oddness as she let out a huff in thought. "Fine, You don't have to listen, but I really wanna tell someone...I haven't even told Kumo this." The words came out as if she was talking more to herself than to Emi. "I don't know how to put it really, but I don't have any memory of who I am -- well besides the name I gave myself." The last part of the thought left her mouth quietly as if she want him to hear her. It wasn't as if she was trying to hide it, just it wasn't something that could easily come up in conversation. Besides even if she did try to tell anyone, Danika was sure that no one would believe her; so why did she tell Emil? Simply because she felt the need to.
She did, however, feel bad about not telling Kumo or her other 'friends' about the whole situation because she didn't want to make them feel sad or pity her. Although she hoped that Emil wouldn't do the same, she was just hoping for a little understanding about it all. Danika didn't let her smile fade away as she hopped from side to side trying to find herself something to do. Staying still wasn't one of her ideal traits, she didn't even know the definition of such a thing. Finally tearing her eyes away from the boy, she found herself looking for something slightly more distracting. Her thoughts were starting to get lost, in what you may ask?
Danika couldn't understand completely why the boy she liked had to be extremely secretive. The redhead only wished that he would be a little more open with her even if it was the smallest of things like -- a sixth toe or a third nipple; maybe not along those lines, but she wasn't sure why it was so hard to share something. Danika couldn't only think that Emil wanted to push her out of his life completely; to mind her own business and there were times when she thought it would be best, but she wanted to know. She wanted to know him better and discover things that only she's allowed to know. Like the fact that he's easily embarrassed or that he's not as cold as most describe him to be.
The girl realized that she had remained silent for quite awhile, or at least much longer than she had ever been quiet. Extending a single finger to scratch the little dragon's chin, Danika giggled lightly when she heard the creature's pleased sounds. "Geez, Jazz, you've been sleeping all day like a cat." She commented now talking to her friend happily, "Guess that means your hungry, ne?" Asking as if he would respond back. Looking back at Emil, she grinned up at him, "You wouldn't happen to have anything for a poor starving girl and a cute little dragon, ne?" Danika spoke with a little laugh. She was hoping slightly that he wasn't listening to what she said earlier and if he was, she hoped that he wouldn't ask.

Maybe he shouldn't have been so surprised. After all, it was Danika: the one person who wouldn't notice him flailing his arms like an idiot. Oh, that troll would be in for a good throttling once he got home that night. He was distracted from his violent plans by what the girl in front of him said next, however. What, so she was going to tell him anyway? Fine, as long as she didn't expect anything back. He still didn't know who Kumo was but decided to leave that for later. Besides, he was distracted by what she'd said next. No memories? The girl seemed so self-assured all the time, so very up-beat and confident, the two didn't seem to fit together at first. Perhaps she'd been told so before, with the way she'd trailed off at the end like that.
Now, this was certainly odd. Emil was such a blunt kid, straightforward to a fault; yet here he was, feeling some sort of obligation to give Danika some kind of comfort or assurance. What was that all about? It was totally out of character, but maybe it was that he was feeling a little... sympathetic. It was completely new to him, who'd always pushed other people's problems off of him and likewise kept to himself. If anyone ever complained to them, he just called them whiny. Maybe that's what happened when you actually listened to other people. As much as his accustomed temperament yelled at him not to do it, he found himself going ahead with it anyway.
"Jeez... Don't look all downcast like that; sure as hell doesn't look good on you. I've got no reason to think you're lying." The words felt oddly sweet on his tongue, and although he didn't much like that, he didn't try to take it back. It made a small crack in that isolating wall of his though, but for once he hadn't even seemed to notice it. Instead, he'd taken to watching her. What was she thinking so hard about as she moved her gaze far off to the side with that look across her features? Or maybe it was just daydreaming. Either way, he wasn't able to focus himself for much longer.
... Because that damned troll behind him just couldn't stay away. In the passed time he'd crawled out and lumbered closer, tilting his head curiously as he eyed Danika. A thought struck Emil before he disregarded it: didn't trolls -- or, the specific kind like Jotul was -- eat humans? But no, even if they did it wouldn't matter because this one wasn't real. Still, though, the more he stood here, the more he was falling into his at-home ways with his 'imaginary friends' [he really hated thinking of them like that, it sounded so immature and ridiculous]. The thing seemed to have a more solid for now, at least. Annoyed, Emil decided that if Danika was looking away she wouldn't notice, and he waved his hand more obviously at Jotul. "Get the hell out of here!" He hissed as angrily as he could manage, trying to make the troll get the message and leave. Before he could do much else, though, Danika was talking again and he jumped from the sudden sound.
It was just her dragon she was talking to, though, so he let himself relax a little, hoping he wasn't a little pink from the surprise. Had she seen him talking to would would appear to be empty air? If she did she didn't show it yet, instead asking for -- oh, of course. What else?
"Food? You're the one who nearly got caught stealing a wallet, go buy some at the bar." He indicated to the door leading back inside, but he knew if she went in he'd probably have to go in after to actually serve her. Standing out here was a bit welcoming, and Emil wasn't too inclined to go back to work just yet. Or at least, half of him wasn't. The other half knew that things would be more Emil-friendly behind the counter, where there were duties and people to keep him busy.

Gentle words left the boy's lips, well, as gentle as they come from Emil. Unexpectedly, the girl felt herself blushing madly as she turned away from him. Danika pressed two little hands on her cheeks, it was unusual for her to hear such things from the boy that she liked. Kyaa!~ No way! Her mind went into a frenzy, the girl acted as if she was just kissed by him which probably wouldn't happen for awhile now. Suddenly, she could hear the boy hiss at something in the distance, staring at him, Danika scanned the room slowly. Was there something here with them? It was actually starting to freak her out a little bit but she didn't let it be known so vividly.
"Um, Emi, what's wrong?" The thought escaped her lips; she didn't sound concern more like she was curious about what he was seeing that she wasn't. Danika looked down at the dragon on her shoulder who was also looking around, just hissing at the empty air. Honestly, Danika was beyond confused and she couldn't figure it out at all. Even though she didn't want to let it go, but it probably wasn't something to be particularly concerned about.
"Food? You're the one who nearly got caught stealing a wallet, go buy some at the bar."
She pouted at the boy, Danika was hoping a little that he would give her something free, but knowing that wouldn't really happen. Grabbing a hold of his hand again, gripping so that he couldn't possibly let go the girl walked back toward the bar. "Awh, can't I not pay? I wanted to save my money for something else." Once she found what that something else to use the money for rather than buying food. "OH!~" Feeling a curious idea running through her mind, "Can you teach me how to make a drink?"
NOTES: ahhh, shortness, oh well.

Emil didn't think it was possible for a girl like Danika -- who usually seemed so very confident and brazen herself -- to get so red so fast. All he'd said was that he didn't think she was lying. Or was it the way he'd said it? Either way, he certainly hadn't been expecting that kind of reaction. maybe she did have a crush on him, and she wasn't just saying things without thinking about them? It got him to thinking about earlier, when he'd said not to say those kinds of things, and what she'd done in response... Damn, now he felt a little bit of heat in his cheeks. Trying to rid himself of what must've been a pink-tinted face was now his priority.
But he forgot about that, and jumped when she responded to his quarrel with the troll. She'd actually heard that? Great time to be observant! Even as she questioned what was wrong she was peering around, trying to catch a glimpse of what only he could see. This time it was embarrassment that colored his cheeks. "N-Nothing! I, uh, thought I saw something." The blond tried to give his voice a leave-it-alone kind of tone, but he didn't think he'd succeeded that well. This whole troll-out-in-public thing was really putting him off-balance. Oh, stop it. If he's imaginary, then he can't stay for long if you don't think about him at all. That was the idea, right? So he tried it, thankful that Danika was changing the subject back to food again. And to the indoors, which sounded a bit more welcoming already.
And there it was, as if that vein was pulsing slightly in his forehead again, just from annoyance. "Obviously, you have to pay! I'm under-compensated as it is, I don't need to make it worse by starting a tab." But he let her pull him back to the bar; her grip on his hand was a bit too strong for him to try to successfully break free of, he decided. He blinked when she spoke again, though, frowning slightly. What could go wrong when it was Danika making drinks, of all things? ... Well, maybe he didn't want to get into too much detail on the consequences. "Fine, fine, but you're still not getting anything for free." He sighed to himself with a hint of exasperation. "And you'd better not take a sip of anything. You're unstable as it is, I don't want to know what you're like drunk." And without waiting for a response, he tightened the back of his man-apron and strode over to where the drinks were put together.
[ uwahh. how do you make drinks? xD; ]
